I’ve been using Ride With GPS for a few weeks now and find it really useful. Bonus is that I can link it with my Garmin Varia rear radar and see both nav and upcoming vehicles in one app. Anyone else using the app do anything with the API?

Normalize saying, “Welcome to the party, pal!” à la John McClain any time someone shows up to a meeting late.

A thing I brought up to our Commissioners recently is changes to the Office of Management and Budget's (OMB) changes to CFR 200, or Uniform Guidance, for Federal grant award programs. (naco.org/news/omb-proposes-maj)

Some major changes:

  • all employees, sub-recipients, and vendors working on a grant fund project must be vetted through DHS' E-verify system

  • 'viewpoint neutrality' requirements for events on County property, regardless of whether the event was grant funded or not and includes events held by subrecipients, etc.

  • encompasses executive orders focused on DEI initiatives, gender ideology, abortion, etc.

  • grants can be revoked at any time, including after being awarded, for any reason and are reviewed by political appointees instead of independent experts as OMB previously operated

  • comment period is open for a 45-day window (until 7/13/2026), well short of the normal minimum 120-day window

  • OMB will only accept comment from ONE person per entity

  • rules go into effect 10/1/2026 (well short of usually a minimum 1-year rollout)

These new rules are ways to enact executive orders via grant fund access. There is no doubt they'll be litigated but who knows how long that will take and if initial rulings will stay the rules until litigation resolves.

I had an MRI on my foot today and honestly the worst part was the music they piped into the headphones to drown out the machine was from Spotify WITH ADS.

Follow up to this one: was referred to a podiatrist and need an MRI, though she’s pretty positive (read: 99.9%) I’ve had an undiagnosed stress fracture that I’ve been walking on for a few months based on the x-ray. The MRI’s mostly to rule out any nerve issues. No boot yet, but suspect I’ll be given one in two weeks.
